Art attack week

WALT: create artist inspired artwork. 

What did I learn to do ?
First we looked at some of Raewyn Harris's art work for some inspiration. Second we looked at the colour wheel and we picked complimentary colour. Next we picked colour to blend and after that colours for light to dark.  Then we did our first copy in pencil and started to think which colour would go where. After that we did another copy but this time in chalk and colour it in. Last we did another copy but with a A3 piece of paper that was our good copy. We had to make our chalk lines big and thick because the chalk turns into black lines. Once we were done with that we then coloured it in. When we were finished colouring it in we dyed it with black art dye. Then we were finished.

What is my next step ?
My next step is to make sure that my art does not get smudge.

We watched some rap videos on bullying.
We were given a rap in groups and had to learn and perform it.

Bullying Rap
I come to school feeling very very cool and then I see you and you push me in the pool.You make me cry when I try to say hi you should pay me for all the things you do why oh why are you such fool ? Why don’t you let me be free I plea I plea. Why do you always run the school, just agree agree you are fool. I am cool everywhere else but just at school you make me look like a fool. I cry and I try and say hi but all you do is be a big fool with a tool.

Multiplication and Division.

WALT: Solve multiplication problems by rounding and compensating.

6 x 43 =
6 x 40 = 240
6 x 3 = 18
240 + 18 = 258

What did I learn to do ?
I learnt that if you have a big number that is like this
5 x 120 =
break it up into a smaller number
5 x 100 = 500
5 x 20 = 100
5 x 0 = 0
then you add them all together
500 + 100 = 600
and that is the answer.

My next step is to solve problems using simple cube numbers and can build what they represent and make a table to show the number pattern.

Creatures From the deep

Creatures from the deep

I hear a scream. I race to my window and when I look out of my window I see an enormous sea creature. I go as fast as lightning, fling open the door and zoom down the staircase.  When I finally reach the lobby and go out the door I turn right and then I see the enormous sea creature.  

I can see it clearly. It is about 30 metres high, it has 8 long sticky tentacles and it is a bluey purple colour.  It looks right at me and then one of its long sticky tentacles come racing towards me. My heart kind of skips a couple of beats.

Then I hear someone yell RUN!  I come back into action and start running for my life. When I am running for my life, I hear a little kid yelling for help. I thought to myself, what do I do, what do I do, in the end I started running towards the kid who was near the sea creature.

When I was about 10 metres from the kid, the sea creature sticks one of it sticky bluey purple tentacles towards us. It was like we are having a race to see who can get to the kid the fastest. I won! I won, I beat the sea creature. I swooped the kid up, turned around and took off.

Once I got far enough away from the creature and got my breath back I asked the little boy, are you alright and he said yes. His name is Tommy. Tommy is 5 years old and he has brown hair, hazel eyes he is short and has a pale face.

We heard a rumble and some of the buildings fall down that are right by my apartment and then, down goes my apartment. My bed flies high up into the deep blue sky and then zooms down and bang, it snaps in half. Then I see my brand new tv break into bits, I felt like screaming nooo. I said to Tommy we have to get on that rescue boat, so I started running towards the rescue boat as fast as I could go carrying Tommy.

We missed the boat and we were standing watching the boat racing off.  I don’t know if another one is coming back. Tommy asked me, what are we going to do now. I didn’t really know, but I knew that we are  going to be alright.

We started making our way to the street, the sun is starting to set. We found a place to sleep in the park where I could taste the wet grass and the cold frozen air. I woke up at 6am in the morning, picked up Tommy and went to see if there were any rescue boats. I saw a shadow in the fog that was coming closer and closer to the doc.


I started to yell, HELLO IS ANYONE THERE? And waited for a reply. Then someone called back, when I heard the person reply I jumped so high I nearly broke the world record. I started to sprint to the doc, the cold wind hit my face. When we got into the boat I was still carrying Tommy. We got taken to another town that was safe and Tommy found his Mum and Dad and he is now recovering in his new home.

Run Bike Run poetry

WALT use poetic verse to recount an event we participated in.

The Run Bike Run event was usual enough; it had the
Teachers, cones, bikes, supporters and even my Mum .
My friends, my classmates and I did what kids do -  
My legs were like lightning bolts as we raced round the lake,
William pushed the pedals like pistons on a train,
Jonathan ran like the wind as he raced to the finish line,
Everyone was cheering like we were at the Olympics,
When our team won my smile was like the sunshine.

Multicultural week

This week I have participated actively in a range of learning experience around ‘Multicultural week WHAT: I was involved in a range of learning experiences for Multicultural week. I celebrated in the games. I went to the yr 7 & 8 space and learnt about Russia. I learnt how to use chopsticks in zone rua my whanau class. SO WHAT: I learnt : That in Russia you can fit 63 New Zealand’s, and that in Russia the temperature can get to -71° and that if you boil hot water and put it in a pot and it is 71° and you chuck it it will turn into snow and how to use chopsticks. I enjoyed getting Henna. I was most fascinated by the fact that in Russia there is a building built without nails. NOW A question I have is why is Chinese New Year different to our New Year ?

Statistics

Walt: follow the statistical enquiry cycle and conduct my own investigation.  

  Conclusions

  1. Blue is the most favourite colour in Year 6.
  2. Yellow is the least favourite colour in Year 6.
  3. Other is the second most favourite in Year 6.

Care Values

I know how to show my care values in the classroom. I think we have the care values at Oaklands School because  then the children can be rewarded for their good behaviour. I think the most important classroom care value is respect your and others right to learn.

Integrated learning

Walt describe ideas about school design
The school idea I am presenting is a Silent Room.
I am presenting this by making a model.
I think the school should use this idea because if you are feeling annoyed or angry the Silent room would be a place that you can go to calm down. Sometimes everyone needs somewhere to go to take a breather and the Silent room would be the perfect place.

Swimming

At swimming I learnt to how to do the 6 kick drill.The thing that I find the most challenging was staying on my side well kicking.The thing that I am the most proud of is that I am now able to do the 6 kick drill.
